Janet Irving – Partner
Janet is the firms founding Partner and has worked in both Legal Aid and Private client work since qualifying as a solicitor in 1991. After becoming a Partner in a Central London firm just 3 years after qualifying she then moved on to establish Irving and Co in 1995. In addition to seeing clients, Janet manages all administrative, financial and regulatory matters for the firm. She is the Solicitors Regulation Authority nominated Compliance Officer for Legal Practice, Finance and Administration as well as the firms Training Principle, Complaint Handler, Audit Officer and Data Protection Officer.
Rachel Meates – Partner
Rachel qualified in 1997 and became a Partner in Irving and Co in 1999. She has worked in both Legal Aid and Private client work and spent 15 years as a Judge in the Immigration Appellate Authority. She is one of the few Immigration practitioners accredited to Level 3 [advanced] as well as being an accredited Supervisor. Rachel deals with private client work . She has particular expertise in dealing with complex work in the Higher Courts and has dealt with a number of high profile cases in the Court of Appeal and the ECHR that have had far reaching effects in the interpretation of Immigration Law in practice [see our notable cases section]. Rachel is held in the highest esteem by client’s and peers alike.
Derick Sharkey – Practice Manager
Derick joined the firm in 2013. He was previously at Gloucester Law Centre where he worked for a number of years as an Immigration caseworker. He deals with all aspects of Private client work and with much of the firms day to day practice management issues. He is Law Society Accredited to Level 2 and is an accredited Supervisor. Derick is an extremely hard worker and is always determined to do the very best for his clients. He deals with all types of applications and appeals and has a loyal client following. He is always willing to help others out and offer support whenever the need arises.
Estelle is a senior caseworker with over 10 years experience. She deals with a full range of Immigration applications and appeals. Estelle is known for her professional manner and clients appreciate her friendly and approachable ways. She is skilled at being able to explain complex issues to clients in a straightforward way that is always reassuring to them. She is efficient and diligent in her approach to casework and fully committed to her loyal client base which is shown by her popularity and success rate. Estelle is a pragmatist, a great team player and always happy to support others.
Edward is currently a trainee and is due to qualify as a solicitor next summer. He has achieved a great deal since he joined the firm 3 years ago. He previously gained a lot of experience with the firm prior to entering into a training contract and has now developed into a confident and competent caseworker. He is more than capable of dealing with a whole range of applications with excellent results. Ed has a calm and thoughtful approach to the many complex issues facing any immigration caseworker and is patient and understanding with clients.
Alex is a trainee solicitor. Prior to joining Irving and Co Alex worked for a number of years at Gloucester Law Centre in their Immigration department so he has far more experience than most trainee solicitors. Alex has a friendly, positive outlook and a practical approach to work. He has a pleasant easy going manner with colleagues and clients and is a quick learner. He also has achieved a lot at the firm and is looking forward to completing his training contract and qualifying as a solicitor.
